AAR - Red Packets
ASL 6
>>Turn 1
>>I position the SPW (for 3, + ArLdr) on the I2-D2 road, hoping to
>>stop any first turn dash (that never took place in the first
>>place), the PzIII goes around F7 to gain control of the N5-N10
>>strip the turn after, the PSW gets rear security duty and gets
>>positioned around F9.
>>My inf. makes to the G5 stone building.
>>Taking a look at the counter mix I had decided that the biggest
>>threat to my armor (SPW in particular) could have come from his
>>inf. units, so I had decided on focusing on covering my AFV (the
>>PSW was assigned to an anti personel role in the first place).
>>The Russians enter the board: the 3 BA-6 platoon (A)and the
>>squads get to Q7-P8 area, some units advances in the woods and is
>>broken by a CMG shot from my PSW, it routs to O9; the other 2
>>BA-6 (B)and the AA truck get to the R5 area, the AA truck will
>>station in this area for a coupple of turns, I have not
>>understood the reason.
>MM: In my opinion the AA truck is only good to watch the backs of the BA-6,
>as it is unarmored and cant even B(F)F. I finally left it back there to
>prevent a swing along the northern road to bring e.g. the PSW in my back.
>As it turned out, Giulio didn't care for that kind of "adventuring", though
>:-/
In reality I was ready for the mad dash in case things went bad on the other
part of the map, the fact is that I just did not have the need
for it.
>>Turn 2
>>I decide to cover the N8-N7/8 vertex with my PzIII, 8MP for a
>>bypass are a lot of MP, and dominating this vertex was a good way
>>to slow down the Russian advance, so the PzIII go in BP in J7. My
>>inf. advance to the K7 building.
>>The SPW advances to H1, the PSW remains still.
>>The Russian A platoon moves in O8, O7, BPN6 (here is my first
>>kill from the SPW) effectively cutting the board in two, platoon
>>A will have to face the N8-N7/8 gambit. The squads move in the N6
>>area, platoon B intiate river crossing the AA truck stands
>>still.
>>Turn 3
>>I decide a major shift in my forces (something I do way too
>>often), the PzIII of course stays put, maybe fire and break a
>>Russian squad, maybe. The SPW from H1 speeds down the road to I5,
>>to cover the flank of Pz II from possible action from platoon B,
>>its position on the D2 H2 road is taken by the PSW (moving per
>>D2).
>>Platoon B finishes the river crossing and moves to BP M6, M5
>>(IIRC)
>>Platoon A positions, having the wreck BA-6 closed the passage
>>north, turns back south (O8 and PB O9 IIRC, Martin, correct me if
>>I am wrong)
>MM: I think so, but dont remember clearly myself...
>>All this had put my PzIII in a bad position, possibly facing up
>>to 4 BA-6 the turn after.
>>The AA truck is still snoaring :-)
>>Turn 4
>>The PzIII pulls back (reverse BP, MG dancing and more, an epic
>>move) and reaches H6, the SPW assumes control of K8 bottle neck
>>hex from its position in I5. My inf., still concealed in K7,
>>moves to a less vulnerable position, (J5 IIRC).
>>Russian Platoon A avoids K8 moving through L8, BP K9, out of my
>>LOS, platoon B gets back to the M5 N5 areas (here I think Martin
>>lost his tempo, this back and forth move was too long (two game
>>turns) to be afforded!).
>MM: yes, that move turned out somewhat senseless - I remember going back
>again to avoid being outflanked. By that time I should have trusted Giulio
>to not take the initiative instead of waiting for me to move into his LOS.
>>Turn 5
>>My PSW in I2 now gives more attention to possible inf. moves in
>>the J5 area, The PzIII and the SPW trade positions,
>>the PzIII (H5) covers K4, aided also by the PSW, the SPW gets in
>>H6 to cover I8, my still concealed inf. moves to I7 to cover the
>>SPW and a possible street fighting vs H7 movers.
>>The russian inf. gets bold and tries to strike toward the SPW one
>>conscript squad moves to H7 (ELRed before), I hold fire, a 447
>>with the leader moves toward I6, but its broken in J6-J5-I6
>>vertex by fire from the PSW (I2) after the I7 German inf. had
>>missed. Platoon A splits one unit goes to J6 and stops (my SPW,
>>VCA to I8 doesn't fire and survives bounding fire) the other moves
>>to J8 and stops (here Martin had hoped that I fired against the
>>BA-6 in J6 to push further with the other, but I have a good fire
>>discipline). Platoon B moves forward : L4, L3, where the leading
>>BA-6 is killed by the PzIII, the survivor moves to K4, but
>>malfunctions its MA. The AA moves on the S7-P2 I2 the PSW IF,
>>misses, but doesn't malf.
>MM: That was the time for the last all or nothing move (Sieg oder
>Sibirien!). I had hoped for a final turn of luck (i.e. the IF PSW (MA: B11)
>breaking its MA on IF), but ...
>>In Def. Fire ph. My SPW malfs his MA, but manages to broken the
>>Ht squas with the AAMG (all my veh. stayed CE all game long).
>MM:and all my infantry stayed DM all game long. Kind of. :-/
>>Turn 6
>>The PzIII kills the last Platoon B BA-6.
>>The PSW kills the AA truck.
>>The SPW Crew abandons the vehicle and takes positions in I6, my
>>inf goes to K5 to DM some Russina brokies and than advances bak
>>to J5 (street fighting vs BP vehicle, I needed to protect the
>>PSW)
>>The two remaining BA-6 moves:
>MM: Unbelievable ;-), but after destroying the abandoned SPW for VC
>conditions I passed both TCs to independently move my BA-6s.
You passed every single one TC you took, what do you whine on!
;-)
>>from J6 to BP J5, street fighting but NE, I5, Killed by PzIII
>>fire (rof)
>>from J8 to BP H8, killed by PzIII fire.
>>This was the game.
>>As I said earlier I dieced Martin, I have always killed (maybe
>>not on the first shot, I IF a LOT), he has always missed!
>>Still I have liked the game a lot, there are a lot of
>>possibilities fort the German player as a defender, many
>>interesting hexes to consider (H1, I2 close but complete
>>different coverages (O.K. maybe coverages is not am ad hoc word,
>>but playing football I like using it) I5, BP J7, G9, E7) the
>>problem of dealing with the Russian inf. (here I was lucky, it is
>>a major problem to be dealt with, and this is maybe the reason
>>why the record shows it pro Russian).
>>I have enjoyed it and I think the replay value is pretty good,
>>moreover is a quick scenario to play, perfect for email games.
>MM: You know those games where afterwards you have the feeling you never
>got any rolls below 7 except for wind change, rally or PTCs? - But
>seriously. Giulio took up very nicely selected defense positions which he
>kept to without fail. I was not on the lucky side in this one, true, but
>coordinated my moves rather badly. Byp. slows the Russian down big time and
>should be avoided as much as possible. If the German keeps his position as
>Giulio did there is no way for the Russians to get by without facing fire
>from at least 2 of the 3 German vehicles (2x ROF2, 1x ROF3). Meaning, I
>guess, that you need to bring in your inf. nicely (and have them *pass* a
>MC or two ;-) ) to at least divert the German AFVs because of the CC threat
>or maybe even get a successful shot at one of the CE crews.
Yep, thanks to Martin "not Snow" Moser for his
collaboration in the production of this
